Cafés in Madison > Studying

"Woke up a little too late this morning, but I think I'll be okay." -Khalid in 8Teen

Grabbing my winter coat, headphones, and a reading book in hand, I head out to State Street on a Saturday morning for some 'me' time. While I love my Starbucks holiday drink of caramel brûlée latte, I would be lucky enough to even find a table for me to catch up on reading! Fortunately, there are numerous cafés all along State Street of which during my time here so far, I was able to check out some of the places. It used to be that libraries were the "go-to" place for studying but nowadays, cafés have officially taken over and much to my delight, I have been satisfied with all of them. With the snow quickly approaching, my ideal morning over the weekend consists of reading a new book while sipping on a cup of hot chocolate.

hot chocolate and a blueberry muffin please

Colectivo Coffee: 583 State Street

Deemed as a popular study hub, the glass window panels surrounding this café attracts students for their handcrafted drinks and baked goods. With power outlets located right by the tables, students are able to get work done in between classes or perhaps for an evening study session. Kathryn and I stumbled upon this café after a late night math session, only to come back for more coffee drinks in the future due to their beautiful latte artwork. The intricate design as well as the rich taste of the chocolate left me satisfied with my first visit to Colectivo. With such great customer service, this is the place for me to cram in some chemistry homework!

scones & conversations with friends

Marigold Kitchen: 118 S Pinckney Street

After ditching the homecoming game due to an unexpected arrival of snow, my friend and I discovered this café where I discovered the best breakfast sandwich I have ever had and this lemon-glazed currant scone (pictured on the left). I am not usually a fan of scones, but this was a remarkable exception. The currants were an excellent addition as it counteracted the tartness of the lemon. 10/10 recommend!

mmm... cinnamon and sugar crêpe

Bradbury's Coffee: 127 N Hamilton

Located right by the Capitol Building, the crêpes - both sweet and savory - are truly a delectable treat on a winter morning. After hearing great recommendations from friends, I just had to take my friend who happened to be in Madison for the weekend. The sensation of cinnamon and sugar enveloped between the fluffy folds of the crêpe was delightful and left me wanting for more! Due to limited seating, this is not the ideal study location for students but it is the perfect treat after a long day of studying. I have been meaning to come back here again before the snow hits Madison and I might just have to include this as part of my to-do list.

We hope you have been enjoying our blog articles just as much as we enjoy writing them. Karisa and I will be back home soon for the winter break where we have some great ideas for our upcoming blog articles so stay tuned! With love, Yui ♡
